FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
YALE SOM’S WOMEN IN MANAGEMENT (WIM) INAUGURATES YALE YOUNG WOMEN’S LEADERSHIP LAUNCH (YWLL)
(New Haven, Feb 4, 2016): Yale School of Management’s Women in Management (WIM) is organizing the first annual Yale Young Women’s Leadership Launch (YWLL). 125 high school female leaders from New Haven and surrounding local areas have been invited to attend a daylong conference to learn, build community, and be inspired. This conference will take place at Yale School of Management’s Edward P. Evans Hall (165 Whitney Ave) on Feb 27, 2016, 8 AM – 5.30 PM.
YWLL aims to provide these high-potential young women the opportunity to spark and expand their leadership path. The conference will include high profile keynote speakers, but will be designed with a highly interactive pedagogy. YWLL will center on customized tracks that capitalize on each participant’s interest. Tracks will include: Future CEO, Future President, Future Engineer, and Future Scientist.
WIM believes the statistics speak for themselves. According to the Center of American Progress[1], American women lag substantially behind men when it comes to their representation in leadership positions:
-
They are only 14.6 percent of executive officers, 8.1 percent of top earners, and 4.6 percent of Fortune 500 CEOs.
-
They hold just 16.9 percent of Fortune 500 board seats.
Additionally, women of color face an even wider gender gap:
-
Women of color occupy only 11.9 percent of managerial and professional positions.
-
More than two-thirds of Fortune 500 companies have no women of color as board directors at all.
Yale School of Management’s mission to serve both business and society aligns strongly with the mission and purpose of the YWLL. WIM’s vision is to develop and execute a young women’s conference that can be an inspiration and blueprint for fellow business schools, including those in the Global Network for Advanced Management, to scale our vision and reach. By empowering local communities of women all over the world, WIM aspires to expand and strengthen the pipeline of female leadership globally.
YWLL is supported by The Community Foundation of Greater New Haven, Yale SOM’s Dean Office, Yale SOM’s Student Government, United Way, and community partner, The New Haven Promise.
